A typical small business rebuild is quoted at roughly USD 5,000 to 15,000, with freelancers towards the low end and agencies towards the high end. Your own number depends on how many unique layouts you have far more than on how many pages.
Rough ranges
- Doing it yourself: hosting only, around USD 0 to 240 a year, plus weeks of evenings.
- Freelancer on a simple site: about USD 2,000 to 8,000.
- Agency on a small business site: about USD 5,000 to 20,000.
- Content site with custom layouts moved off WordPress: about USD 10,000 to 25,000.
- WooCommerce or complex features: USD 10,000 to 50,000 and up.
Treat these as benchmarks. Most published figures come from agencies and tools selling the same service, so a real quote from two or three people you trust is worth more.
What drives the price
- Template count. A site with 22 unique layouts means 22 components to design, build and test.
- Content work. Rewriting copy or fixing images is often the largest hidden cost.
- Integrations. Forms, payments, memberships and bookings all add time.
- SEO migration. Redirect mapping needs real hours, and skipping it can cost far more than it saves.
The hidden costs
- Your own time for reviews and decisions.
- A traffic dip for a few weeks after launch, even with a clean migration.
- A month of fixes after launch. Keep around 10 to 15 percent of the budget for it.
How to get a better quote
- Do the inventory yourself, and count your unique layouts.
- Ask each provider to quote per template and to list what's excluded.
- Ask for a redirect map from a past project, and the Search Console graph for the weeks after that launch.
- Agree who owns the code, the hosting and the domain before you pay.
Should you pay at all?
If the site earns little and a mistake wouldn't hurt much, do it yourself and keep the savings. If it brings in real revenue, pay someone who has done it before. The 7-step framework helps either way, and the rebuild guide covers the decision in more depth.
